When life falls apart, does Jesus still care? In Acts 22:30–23:11, Paul had been rejected, beaten by a mob, stretched out for flogging, and struck in the mouth on the orders of a corrupt high priest. Under the pressure, Paul lost his temper, but he immediately owned his sin and confessed it on the spot. He then turned the Sanhedrin against itself and was dragged back to his cell. That night, Jesus stood beside him. He told Paul to take courage, affirmed his faithful past, and promised him a future in Rome. When the storms of life swirl around us, Jesus is not asleep. He comes close to comfort the brokenhearted.
