What Does The Quran Say About The Role Of Women?

A woman’s role is primarily the birthing of children. Men are allowed to beat their wives.
The Quran allows a Muslim man to have up to four wives.
A man’s inheritance is twice that of a woman. A man’s evidence in court is given double the weight of a woman’s. The right to divorce belongs to a Muslim man but not to his wife.
The denial of civil rights to women, which is clearly in the text of the Quran, is reflective of seventh-century Arabian culture and its low view of women. Even today, Muslim women can be kept prisoners in their own home. They can be denied the right to go outside the house if the husband so orders. They are still denied the right to vote in Islamic countries such as Kuwait! In Islamic countries such as Iran, women must carry written permission from their husband to be out of the house! Women are even denied the right to drive a car in such places as Saudi Arabia.
Men are the managers of the affairs of women … those you fear may be rebellious admonish; banish them to their couches, and beat them. (Surah 4:34)

…marry those that please you of [other] women, two or three or four. (Surah 4:3)
