Does God still work when we can’t see Him? In Acts 23:12–35, more than forty men swore an oath not to eat or drink until they had killed Paul, and the corrupt Sanhedrin agreed to help. Yet God’s name never appears in the passage. Instead, His invisible hand placed Paul’s young nephew in the right place to overhear the plot, moved a Roman tribune to act, and surrounded Paul with 470 soldiers who carried him safely to Caesarea by night. The man who woke up to an assassination plot went to sleep in Herod’s palace. Providence is no less a work of God than the parting of the Red Sea. He is still arranging people and circumstances to care for His children and accomplish His purposes.
