Mark 10:46-52 - The Blind Man That Could See
January 05, 2020 - 12:20 PM Filed in: Gospel of Mark
If you could ask Jesus for anything, what would it be? Would you ask to be famous and popular? Would you ask to be beautiful or strong? Even if we asked for those things, how do we know Jesus would want to give us those things? As we come to the gospel of Mark, we find one thing we can ask for from Jesus that we know we will always say, "Yes!"

Mark 9:1-13 - The Transfiguration
September 29, 2019 - 12:43 PM Filed in: Gospel of Mark
Do you remember learning to swim? I learned to swim as a young child in a pool. The scary part of the pool was the deep end where I couldn't touch bottom. Taking a swim in the deep end was petrifying. The only way I would swim in the deep end was if an adult was with me. They could help me. If an adult was with me, I knew it would be ok. In a similar way, Jesus just told the crowds what it would take to be his disciple. Everyone who is a disciple of Jesus needs to deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow him. That is scary. Those who follow Jesus need to be willing to give up their life! That is scarier than swimming in the deep end of the pool! Wouldn't it be nice it there was a way Jesus could help them so they knew that even if they lost everything for Jesus, it would be ok? As we come to the transfiguration, that is exactly what Jesus does.

In this message, we look at the original gospel invitation given us by Jesus. Surprisingly, most of today's gospel invitations do not look anything like the original one given us by Jesus.

Mark 8:11-21 - Jesus Takes On Unbelief
June 16, 2019 - 10:56 AM Filed in: Gospel of Mark
Rejection of Jesus comes in many forms. There is outright rejection that we can see in the Pharisees. They were open enemies of Jesus. Rejection of Jesus also comes in subtler forms. At this point in the gospel of Mark, the disciples were teetering on the edge of practical unbelief in Jesus not because they openly rejected him but because they were too familiar with him. Join us as we learn the danger of practical unbelief in the lives of people like you and me.

I apologize for the poor audio quality and off-center camera angle in the video.

Genesis 15 - Doubt
January 17, 2016 - 08:17 AM Filed in: Genesis
Martin Luther is famous as a reformer and church leader. He is also remembered for a less flattering trait—doubt. At times doubts over God's character led Luther to intense times of depression where he wrote, "For more than a week I was close to the gates of death and hell. I trembled in all my members. Christ was wholly lost. I was shaken by desperation and blasphemy of God." It is comforting to know that even a man of Martin Luther's stature can experience times of doubt over how God can keep his word. In Genesis 15 Abram struggled with doubt when God appeared to have forgotten to keep his promises. In our study we learn how to face times of doubt in God's plans for our life.

Close your eyes. Imagine life in the darkness of absolute blindness. A vast world exists that you can not see. Similar to physical blindness, the Bible tells us we are all born spiritually blind. We can not see the true identity of Jesus unless God supernaturally opens our eyes.

James 2:14-19 - Fake Faith
July 10, 2011 - 02:48 PM Filed in: James
Did you make a commitment to Christ as a child in summer camp? Millions are led to believe their eternity in heaven is secure if they can point to a day when they believed. Is it true that those who are not saved are simply those who haven't believed in Jesus? James disagrees. While we are saved by faith alone, James reminds us, saving faith is never alone. It will always be accompanied by works. There are millions who think their eternity is secure and they are good with God because at one time they placed their faith in Jesus. Unfortunately, they will spend an eternity apart from him because their faith turned out to be fake. What does fake faith look like? What is the crucial difference between faith that saves and faith that doesn't? Join us as we learn the important difference.
