CrossWinds - Greeter Job Description
June/03/2023 02:14 PM Filed in: CrossWinds
I am grateful to have you as greeters! You are the first impression many will have of CrossWinds and Christians. Your role is essential! Below are suggestions on how to make your role a success.
Arrive early. Stay Late. If you are greeting for the first service, arrive no later than 7:55 AM to greet for the 8:15 AM service. Greet until at least 5 minutes after the service starts at 8:20 AM. If you are greeting for the second service, be at the door at 9:30 AM. Greet until 10:05 AM. If people continue arriving 5 minutes after the service starts, please stay a few minutes longer to greet people. The ushers will help them find their place.
Wear your name tag. You have a preprinted name tag on a lanyard in the storage closet next to the east entrance doors of the worship space. Wear your name tag while on duty and return it to that closet after the service.
Open the door. When you see someone arriving, especially if it is cold, open the door. This small gesture helps a church feel warm and welcoming.
Shake a hand and use a smile. Shake a hand, and use your best smile. Look people in the eye and tell them you are thankful they came.
What about a visitor? We ideally want four greeters covering the front doors. This allows a greeter or two to pull away from the door and help a visitor. If you sense someone might be new, simply say, “I am sorry if I don’t remember your name. Are you new today?” If they say yes, peel away from greeting at the door, and have another greeter take your place. Take a few minutes to talk with them. If they have children, let them know that children grade 5 and under will be dismissed before the sermon for age-appropriate teaching. If they have an infant or toddler, ask them if they would like to use the nursery. If so, offer to walk them to the nursery and help them check in.
What are the welcome packets? If you have a new family or individual, go to the "Information Center" and get a welcome bag. Give one per family. The bags contain:
Pitch in if needed. If you notice nobody greeting at the doors during a worship service or only one or two people greeting at the door on any Sunday, step in and assume the role. Sometimes people forget they are greeters. Other times people are running late. Any way we can help one another as greeters is appreciated.
What if I am out of town and cannot greet? If you know a period of time, you can add block-out dates letting others know not to schedule you. You can do that in the Planning Center Services app or Church Center app. Simply tap your profile picture in the upper right-hand corner of the church app. Once in your profile, click the action button on the upper right side of your screen. That will allow you to block out dates. It also allows you to email your team leader if you have questions or a sudden change of plans.
Write down visitor information. After meeting someone new, write down what you remember on your phone and email Pastor Kurt that information after the service. That will help us better welcome them when they return.
As you can see, serving as greeters is an important job.
Thank you for helping CrossWinds reach people with Jesus.
