Leviticus 5:14-6:7 - Guilt Offering
December 20, 2015 - 09:44 AM Sermon SeriesChristmas from Leviticus
Are you in debt? Americans carry more debt for daily living today than 12 years ago. The average American household in 2015 has $129,579 in total debt with $15,355 of that debt on credit cards. This debt doesn't just come from uncontrolled spending. The cost of daily life is rising faster than salaries. In the last 12 years the average income rose 21 percent while medical costs increased 51 percent and the cost of food 37 percent. it is hard to stay out of debt! While the Bible doesn't teach us how to eliminate debt on our credit card, it tell us how to face a much more important debt. The debt of our sin to God. In our study of the Guilt Offering we learn how to find freedom from the debt of our sin.

Leviticus 4:1-5:13 - Sin Offering
December 13, 2015 - 01:26 PM Sermon SeriesChristmas from Leviticus
Is there any way to avoid the common cold? Doctors tell us there is only one fool-proof way to not get sick. We have to die. Cold viruses are everywhere. There is nothing we can do to avoid them. In the same way, no matter how much we desire to live a holy life, sin is everywhere and we can't avoid it. In this study we learn how they took care of unavoidable sin in the Old Testament and why we are so thankful to Christ for coming and dealing with sin in a completely different way.

God doesn't just provide what we need to survive physically, at Christmas he gave us what we need to survive spiritually. Jesus.

November 22, 2015 - 12:22 PM Sermon SeriesChristmas from Leviticus
The book of Leviticus talks about sacrifices we no longer offer, a priesthood that no longer exists and practices that we can't relate. What good is it for Christians and what does it mean for Christmas? In this exciting series we examine the five offerings in the first seven chapters of Leviticus and see how they are point to Christ and what he was born to accomplish. In the first sacrifice, the burnt offering, we find the importance of a costly perfect substitute to die in our place to bring us into a relationship with God.

October 11, 2015 - 07:49 PM Sermon SeriesGenesis
A 1991 article in the Chicago Tribune told how a Texas mother was so intent on her 13 year old daughter making the cheerleading squad that she hired a hitman to kill the mother of her daughters competition. Detectives discovered she originally planned a double murder of the daughter and the mother but the double murder turned out to be too expensive so she opted for a single murder of the mother for a cheap $2,500. All this to secure her 13 year old daughter's spot on the cheerleading squad. How to people become so evil and cold-hearted? As we continue our way through Genesis we learn how sin slowly takes control of each of our lives and drags us into a descent of increasing levels of wickedness. Jesus is our line of hope from God to break free.

Genesis means origins. The book of Genesis is a book about origins. It tells us about the origin of the universe, the origin of life, the origin of marriage, the origins of evil, the origin of language and the origin of God's plan to save us from our sin. As we prepare to study the book that describes the origins of almost everything, what should we think about this book? Is it a collection of myths with moral lessons or is it historical fact? What should we think about the six days of creation? Are they figurative for long periods of time or six literal days? Join us as we orientate ourselves to this foundational book.

What Does The Bible Say About Transgender Issues?

Bruce Jenner was the all-American male. He won the decathlon in the 1976 Montreal Olympics. He was considered for the role of Superman and James Bond. It looked like he had everything a man could want—until he began taking on a softer appearance. On April 24, 2015 he came out of the closet with Diane Sawyer. He revealed that he was transsexual and was for all intents and purposes a woman. How does God look at those struggling with gender dysphoria? Is surgery the answer? How should the church address the Bruce Jenner's in their neighborhood? Join us in finding the answers.

CrossWinds Covenant Renewal - God is Faithful
August 30, 2015 - 10:44 AM Sermon SeriesStand Alone Sermons
Join the combined worship service of the CrossWinds Church Spencer and Spirit Lake campuses as we remember God's faithfulness in our lives. After remembering God's faithfulness, we recommitted ourselves to faithfully following Jesus with the same commitments God's people made when they recommitted themselves in the days of Nehemiah (Nehemiah 10:28-39).
1. We commit to only dating and marrying someone that loves Jesus.
We will not give our daughters to the peoples of the land or take their daughters for our sons. Nehemiah 10:30 (ESV)
2. We commit to faithfully keeping the day of worship and rest.
And if the peoples of the land bring in goods or any grain on the Sabbath day to sell, we will not buy from them on the Sabbath or on a holy day. And we will forego the crops of the seventh year and the exaction of every debt. Nehemiah 10:31 (ESV)
3. We commit to everybody doing a little something so my campus can operate.
We also take on ourselves the obligation to give yearly a third part of a shekel for the service of the house of our God: for the showbread, the regular grain offering, the regular burnt offering, the Sabbaths, the new moons, the appointed feasts, the holy things, and the sin offerings to make atonement for Israel, and for all the work of the house of our God. Nehemiah 10:32–33 (ESV)
4. We commit to giving God what is first and best in our lives.
We obligate ourselves to bring the firstfruits of our ground and the firstfruits of all fruit of every tree, year by year, to the house of the Lord; also to bring to the house of our God, to the priests who minister in the house of our God, the firstborn of our sons and of our cattle, as it is written in the Law, and the firstborn of our herds and of our flocks; and to bring the first of our dough, and our contributions, the fruit of every tree, the wine and the oil, to the priests, to the chambers of the house of our God;… Nehemiah 10:35–37 (ESV)
- Money — My offering check is written first.
- Serving — I plan on serving others at church first in my schedule and my vacations second, not the other way around.
- Worship — I will go to bed early on Saturday so I am not falling asleep on Sunday. I want to give my best to worship and study of God’s word.
- Bible Study - I will read my Bible as one of the first things in my day, not the last thing when I am exhausted.
…and to bring to the Levites the tithes from our ground, for it is the Levites who collect the tithes in all our towns where we labor. And the priest, the son of Aaron, shall be with the Levites when the Levites receive the tithes. And the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithes to the house of our God, to the chambers of the storehouse. For the people of Israel and the sons of Levi shall bring the contribution of grain, wine, and oil to the chambers, where the vessels of the sanctuary are, as well as the priests who minister, and the gatekeepers and the singers. We will not neglect the house of our God.” Nehemiah 10:37–39 (ESV)

What Does The Bible Say About Homosexuality? -- 7 Key Bible Passages
August 16, 2015 - 06:01 PM Sermon SeriesWhat Does The Bible Say About Sexuality?
On June 16, 2015, the Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage making it the law of the land. Many Christians are not supportive of this decision. When asked to explain why it is wrong, most Christians are frustrated. They don't have good biblical answers. If they point to the prohibition against homosexuality in Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13, they are told the obscure laws in that book shouldn't be obeyed. Doesn't Leviticus prohibit lots of things, like eating shellfish (I like shrimp and lobster!) or wearing clothing woven of different fabrics (My shirt is a cotton-polyester blend). If we ignore Leviticus on some things, shouldn't we ignore that obscure Old Testament book on all things? Isn't the Bible's big idea to be loving and accepting of all people like Jesus? If that is true, why are Christians opposed to loving same-sex relationships? In this message, we look at all seven biblical passages on homosexuality. We also examine Mark Achtimeier, the author of The Bibles Yes to Same-Sex Marriage: An Evangelical's Change of Heart, response to them. Join us as we examine the Bible on this important topic. Be prepared to give your answer.

What does the Bible say? How far is too far before the wedding night? Is it up to us to pray about it and decide for ourselves?
