John 21 - Built for Others
September 08, 2013 - 04:58 PM
What does a life that pleases God look like? Does it mean our theology is tight? Does it mean we attend Bible studies, pray and read the Bible every day? While spiritual disciplines are good, we love God by loving his people. We are built for others. As we wrap up the Gospel of John, the final chapter challenges us to move from right beliefs about Christ to caring for others in the name of Christ as the way we express our love to God.

John 20 - The Resurrection Changes Everything
September 01, 2013 - 02:43 PM
The church often talks about the cross what Christ achieved for us on it. The early church in the book of Acts didn't talk about what Christ did on the cross. All twelve sermons in Acts talk about what Christ made possible through the empty tomb. The tomb is empty. Jesus loves you. He is alive and hears your prayers. That is the message of every spiritual revival in history. It is the resurrection that changes everything.

August 11, 2013 - 09:54 AM
A drunk driver runs a red light and broadsides a car. The passenger, a bubbly 13 year old junior high girl, is paralyzed for life. Where was God? How could he let this happen? A hard-working father finds himself unemployed for over a year. His job was sent overseas to swell the company's bottom line. Struggling to find work, his sense of self-esteem is shattered. His family scrapes by and his wife works minimum wage jobs. God, where are you? How could you let this happen? Sometimes life feels out of control. Is God there? If he is there, how much control does he have over our life? As we look at the betrayal Christ, we find the answer.

John 17 - Profane Church
August 04, 2013 - 10:13 AM
Today, churches feel like a coffee shops. Preachers dress in jeans and shirts from The Buckle instead of suits. There are video projection screens and colored lights. Sometimes church feels more like entertainment. How much should the church become like the world? What would Jesus do? In John 17, we look at Jesus' prayer for how his disciples would carry on the mission of connecting people to God through his life. His prayer is that we would be profane in the way we do it. What does that mean? Join us as discover what it means to be a profane church that follows a profane savior.

John 16:16-33 - Everything is About to Change
July 28, 2013 - 10:39 AM
In minutes, Jesus' betrayal will begin. For the disciples, everything is about to change. The changes will not just be in how they know Christ but in how they will know God and pray to him. For the first time, they will pray to God in Jesus' name. Jesus promises that God the Father will always answer those prayers. What does it mean to pray in Christ's name? What can we expect when we pray in his name? In this message, we discover how praying in Jesus' name changes everything.

John 16:5-15 - The Holy Spirit in Action
July 21, 2013 - 04:00 PM
In the New Testament, we read about the Holy Spirit empowering God’s people for amazing miracles. Sometimes the Holy Spirit miraculously healed the sick. Occasionally people spoke in a foreign language because the Holy Spirit enabled. Most have not experienced the Holy Spirit working in those miraculous ways. Sometimes, we wonder if the Holy Spirit is working in us at all. In this message, we discover how the Holy Spirit works today in ways we probably didn’t expect.

John 15:18-16:4 - Persecution
June 30, 2013 - 04:14 PM
Around the world, Christians suffer. In Pakistan, Christian women are gang raped. In China, men are set outside naked in the winter and doused with cold water, left to freeze to death because they shared Christian literature. In the Sudan, children are hacked open with machetes and their mothers have their hands hacked off, all for claiming Christ as the only one who can save them from their sin. Why are Christians persecuted so mercilessly, and without cause? In John 15, Jesus tells us why following Jesus draws persecution like blood in the water for a shark.

June 23, 2013 - 04:03 PM
Monday comes and the rat race begins. Evenings are missed dinners as parents scurry to baseball, softball, and football with the kids. Husbands and wives are like ships, passing in the night. Sunday comes and we take care of our religious obligations. Before we know what happened, youth and vigor are spent and we are marking time on a calendar in a retirement home waiting our grave. After a lifetime of work, did our lives make any kind of lasting difference? In John 15, Jesus teaches us the difference between a life that is busy and a life that makes a difference.

An alcoholic swears off the bottle. Three days later he grabs another case of beer at the corner gas station. A husband looses his temper with his wife again. He hates himself for it. Why does he keep losing his temper? Why can't he change? As Christians, we become frustrated when we want to obey Christ but we keep drifting away. Where does the power come from for lasting change? Today, we don't believe everyone has a right to their opinion but we now believe all opinions are equally right. In John 14, Jesus prepares his disciples for his departure and for what they need to know to keep them on the mission once he is gone. A big part of that is understand how unique Christ is. As we study this chapter, we won't just learn what kept the disciples on mission but we learn how to stay on the mission Jesus gives to us today.

John 13:1-17 - Scandalous Love
May 26, 2013 - 09:50 AM
On October 2, 2006, Charles Roberts burst into an Amish one-room schoolhouse in Lancaster Pennsylvania. He shot ten girls, ages 6-13, killing five, before committing suicide. Incidents like this make the news, but what kept this in the news was the response of the Amish. The Amish visited Charles Roberts family after the shooting to tell them they were extended forgiveness. Members of the Amish community visited Charles Roberts widow, parents and parents-in-law to comfort them in their loss. One Amish father held Charles Roberts' sobbing father in his arms for an hour. The Amish even set up a charity fund for Charles Robert's widow and children. Over 30 Amish attended Charles Roberts' funeral. When does this kind of love come from? It is scandalous. When the Amish were asked how they could forgive and love, they only had one name,… Jesus.

John 12:34-50 - One Last Chance
May 12, 2013 - 11:19 AM
In life, there are windows of opportunity. Once those windows close, opportunities are gone. As John 12 draws to a close, the final moments of Jesus' public ministry come to an end. The last window of opportunity slams shut. Like the crowds, each of us has a limited number of opportunities to respond to Jesus. We don't know which one will be our last chance.

John 12:12-33 - Living for the Applause of One
May 05, 2013 - 02:56 PM
Applause… We want them. It is hard to live without them. What should we do when we can't make everyone happy? As Jesus enters Jerusalem, it is the high point of his ministry. A crowd of thousands cheer his arrival and ask him to be king. He can't make everyone happy. To gain the applause of God the Father, he needs to turn his back on the intoxicating pleasure of the crowd and embrace a horrifying death for us. Like Jesus, we also need to choose whose applause we will live for, our friends and neighbors or our Heavenly Fathers. Like, Jesus, to gain the applause of God the Father will involve a path of suffering. The applause of God the Father are worth it in the end.

John 12:1-11 - The Biblical Case for Extravagant Living
April 28, 2013 - 03:02 PM
In 1994-1995, Robin Leach starred in the television series, Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. The program featured those who lived in excess. Their overdone lifestyles became a mocking form of entertainment. Reacting to the excesses of our culture, Christians pride themselves on frugality. In so doing, we may have become men and women of cheap worship who make too little of Jesus. In this part of the Bible, the apostle John teaches us the more we know Jesus , the more extravagant our lives will become.

When you bring Jesus into a conversation, you instantly polarize the room. Some people love him, others hate him. In our desire to avoid offending others, we keep quiet about Jesus and wait for an opportune moment. Is that the way the Jesus presented himself? Was the early church known for waiting for just the right moment so they were sure not to offend? It was just the opposite. They brought Jesus into conversations expecting he would divide the room. That is the way the church grew.

John 3:17-21 - What About Those Who Don't Believe in Jesus?
July 08, 2012 - 02:55 PM
In 2011, Rob Bell, the senior pastor of Mars Hill Church in Michigan, published a controversial book titled, "Love Wins: A book about heaven, hell and the fate of every person who ever lived." In it, Robs says, "What if the story of heaven and hell we have been taught is not, in fact, what the bible teaches…. how could it be good news if billions suffer in hell while only a select few go to heaven?" Rob proposes that hell is a type of reform school from which everyone will eventually graduate. Is this true? Join us as we let the Bible tell us about heaven, hell and the fate of every person who ever lived.
